welcome families search trees places ahnentafel contact about me recent changes up to 16th september 2018 i began this website in the year 2000 and t he main purpose of this site is to present my research into my ancestors and their families. i have tried to avoid long lists of names and have concentrated on family groups and ancestral lines.i've added an alphabetical list people in my tree generated by using family historian if you wish to search for a person or a surname, click on the search button above. you are visitor : research in england derbyshire, staffordshire, cheshire, lancashire, essex, nottinghamshire, westmorland, yorkshire, suffolk, surrey and middlesex. research in wales flintshire. research in scotland midlothian, east lothian, fife, berwickshire, aberdeenshire, dumfries-shire, wigtownshire, perthshire and lanarkshire. some of my research into my european ancestors can be found here . though this page is not up to date. regimental badge my 3xgreat grandfather, edward turner was born in 1803 at old sampford in essex and at the age of 17 years he travelled to ipswich and joined the 20th regiment of foot who at the time were guarding napoleon bonaparte on st helena. in 1838 he was on duty at buckingham palace at the coronation of queen victoria. he served in st helena,india, ireland and bermuda. his daughter, my 2xgreat grandmother mary ann turner was born in bermuda in 1843. for details of sergeant edward turner 's 25 year career in the regiment, click here . the roes originate from parwich in derbyshire. the roes spread from parwich to three main areas initially: bakewell manchester snelston parwich, derbyshire i have tranferred to this website the text of a short history of the roe family that i wrote in 2006 called: click on the title to view. my 8x great grandfather, george roe was born about 1600 and lived in parwich, derbyshire. my 7xgreat grandfather, john roe was born in parwich, derbyshire in 1625. he was a yeoman farmer at roystone grange at ballidon close to parwich. john married anne stubbes who is the granddaughter of sampson stubbes (see below). to view my descent from john roe, click here . since 2010, i have researched more of my cheshire ancestors: dickinsons of acton by nantwich and tarporley; walkers and bayleys of sandbach; kirks of haslington and coppenhall; yoxalls of coppenhall ; edwards and sprostons of wybunbury; royles , hollinsheads and minshulls of church minshull. my 3xgreat grandfather, leslie fleming (18051893), was a printer in edinburgh. at the age of 87, he wrote about his personal and professional life. click on book logo to read. for an article in the british printer 1941 about the generations of printers in the fleming family, click on the printing press logo. in 2009, i discovered my cumbrian roots. my 4xgreat grandfather, thomas hebblethwaite was born at grayrigg, westmorland. the hebblethwaites are from near sedbergh in the yorkshire dales and in the 16 century lived at hebblethwaite hall . thomas married jane toulmin in 1780 at st oswalds, warton near lancaster. the toulmins are from bolton le sands, lancashire and more details on the toulmins can be found here . my 9xgreat grandfather, sampson stubbes (c1570 1651) was a gentleman and lawyer in a village, butterton, staffordshire. he would ride to lichfield to represent villagers in court. he wrote his own will and a copy can be found on this site, click he re. butterton village james brindley (1716 - 1772) is a world famous canal engineer and a cousin of mine. some details of his achievements can be found if you click here . for more information on his first canal project, the bridgewater canal click here . wigtownshire my 2xgreat grandmother, elizabeth kennedy was born in wigtown, wigtownshire, scotland. her parents came from ireland. elizabeth came to manchester and married samuel hamnett at manchester cathedral. for information about irish migration to scotland, click here . my 2xgreat grandmother, eliza lauder is descended from sir robert lauder , lord justice of scotland. he was born c1350 on the bass rock, north berwick, east lothian. the more recent lauders (18th century) were notable surgeons in edinburgh including george lauder , right. a useful online resource can be found here .
